Chop Buga

StartUp July,2022 UI/UX_CaseStudy

Project Overview

Food is undoubtedly necessary for humans to have a healthy life, and eating nutritious, well-balanced meals is highly important. However, because Lagos was built to keep the average Lagosian occupied with everyday responsibilities, the general populace occasionally learns to replace junk food with healthy meals.

Chop Buga is a mobile food delivery service that enables users who don’t have the time to prepare breakfast and lunch to eat healthy meals instead of relying on junk food for daily supper. Users of the mobile application can buy various meals and have them delivered quickly to their doorsteps (workplaces, offices, houses, etc.).

The beauty of Chop Buga is that the mobile application comes with two language options; Pidgin English and English language. This helps “EVERY” user to order meals appropriately including a “Layman”.

Problem Statement

How can an average Lagosian, go about their daily hustle but yet eat good meals? How can a layman on the street, who knows nothing about technology, still find good meals rather than junk?

These questions pose a great deal in our society today and this is what Chop Buga has come to take care of.

Possible Solutions

  • Create a user-friendly and clear interface to aid enjoyable experiences by the users
  • Eradicate the language barrier by availing options for different languages
  • Provision of light mode and dark mode to enhance enjoyable user experiences.
  • Provide public ratings for each of the meals. This will help users to find their desired meals quickly and also get a first-hand review of past experiences before trying out a new meal
  • Track the delivery personnel to ensure that the order is delivered to the appropriate address

My Role

I was the lead UI/UX Designer throughout the project. I was therefore saddled with the responsibilities of;

  • Conducting a User Research and analysis. I carried out user interviews for this project as well as sent out surveys (Qualitative and Quantitative analysis). Moreso, conducting a Competitors analysis
  • Creating User Flow, Wireframe, Low-fidelity prototype, High-Fidelity Prototype, Design System
  • Prototyping

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

A competitive analysis – also known as a competitor analysis – is a way of evaluating how well your business and its products or services are performing compared to other companies selling similar products or services in your market.

UNDERSTANDING TARGET USERS

Defining who we’re designing for helped us understand the needs and how to go about solving them.

ANALYZING INFORMATION

Qualitative and Quantitative research methods were used to gather information about the users in order to gain insight into their pain points. Empathy mapping was used to better comprehend users’ thoughts. Finding the gaps between the user and the solution was really helpful.

DESIGN SYSTEM

While sketching for design solutions, I created a design system and UI components to ensure consistency and clarity. Since there were no pre-established patterns, I worked on new ones.

Usability Testing

To confirm the mobile app’s functionality and usability, I conducted some usability tests to get feedback on what’s good and what could be better about Chop Buga.

Assigned Tasks

I distributed the mobile app to a few potential users and assigned them a couple of tasks to perform which would provide insights into the user’s experience of the mobile app.

  • Sign up for the app. How difficult was it to achieve?
  • Add a few meals to your wishlist/favorite.
  • Order a meal
  • Track your meal and see if you can locate your driver
  • Change the language option to your preferred option and also switch
between light mode and dark mode

Findings

I distributed the mobile app to a few potential users and assigned them a couple of tasks to perform which would provide insights into the user’s experience of the mobile app.

  • The signup/sign-in tasks were easy to achieve
  • The initial design had just two language options (Pidgin English and English). However, a couple of users felt to add up more options to aid better user experiences for them. This change was effected after the usability studies were completed
  • Ordering a meal was very straightforward and easy to complete
